MikroEnsemble is a new Finland-based contemporary music group specialized in microtonal music. The core of the ensemble’s instrumentation is formed by new instruments specifically designed for quarter-tone playing. The newest of these instruments is the quarter-tone piano, build by Otso Haapamäki in 2015. In addition, MikroEnsemble’s original instrument pallet includes the quarter-tone accordion, the quarter-tone guitar, the quarter-tone flute, the quarter-tone clarinet, along with the violin and the cello. The debut concert of the ensemble, formed by the leading Finnish contemporary music instrumentalists, was held in the fall 2015.
